Making New Wiki Pages
Before creating a new wiki page it is essential that you first check that a page does not already exist relevant to what you intend to write. The easiest way to do this is to:
- do a search (there is search field in the left menu)
- if you find a page similar but not the same as a result of your search then click the 'related changes' link under the search menu
- check links in to the current page ('what links here') which is available for any article in the wiki you are viewing.
There are several ways to create a new page in this wiki. The easiest (usually) is to write a link in the article you are writing or editing, and then following this link. When you make a link in a wiki to a page that does not yet exist, then opening that page (by following the link) will allow you to edit that page. To write a wiki link you place two square brackets around the text that you want to be the name of the page. For example:
- square bracket square bracket PageName closing square bracket closing square bracket would appear as:
Generally you will want links to wiki pages to be in plain English, to do this still use the two square brackets but add a pipe (the vertical stroke usually located above the \ key on your keyboard) after the page name and then put your text. The text will appear as the link. For example:
- square bracket square bracket PageName | follow this closing square bracket closing square bracket would appear as:
Linking to Existing Wiki Pages
Find the name of the wiki page that you would like to link to, and write a link as you would for making new wiki pages (above).

Making External Links
To make a link to an external site place a square bracket around the url. If you have a space after the url then any text that follows will appear as the text link. For example:
- square bracket http://www.rmit.edu.au RMIT closing square bracket would appear as:
Making Lists
- To make an unordered list place an asterisk in front of each line item.
- To make an ordered list place a hatch character (shift 3) in front of each line item.
- to make a definition list place a semi colon in front of the defintion term, and a colon in front of the definition description.
